The data suggested that the overall usage and condition of equipment at all the locations was satisfactory at the time of this inventory. There were exceptions, and these have been identified in the report. Action should be taken by the headquarters management to determine why some stations were not using the equipment and why it was in such poor condition.
A further analyses is needed by BARC or another agency in the government to determine if such a large number of regional and sub-stations are required. Since many of the sites had very limited amounts of equipment on must question if the site could be truly productive. It would be a savings to the government to close sell or lease the sites or in some way reduce and consolidate many of these locations. Only a few well managed research stations may be required to produce the necessary research results to maintain a strong agricultural sector in Bangladesh. The poor condition of equipment at BAU requires immediate attention in order to insure that future agricultural scientists of Bangladesh have received the best training possible. When laboratory equipment is not functional or is inadequate the training of students can't be of the caliber expected from an important university. |
