This proposal has the objectives of fulfilling the requirement to assist positively the improvement in agricultural research in Bangladesh, to improve the transfer of technology through extension and other methods, and thus enable farmers to be more productive and better able to make a meaningful contribution to the development of Bangladesh. There is much information already existing which can be applied to the benefit of the farmers, but to be undertaken in greater quality and quantity in Bangladesh, so that the benefits of research can make a practical impact. It will not be possible to make progress uniformly in all areas. The means of progress will in many cases have to be pilot schemes, suitably deployed, to show the results of research. We know that the manpower is available, that it can be brought up to a more appropriate standard by training and equipped with the means and confidence to impart the knowledge to the farmers. From the demonstration activities in key areas, the more developed systems of farming can spread out most helpfully and produce a generally higher level of activity eventually in all regions |
