dc.description.abstract The workshop on the evaluation of the Agricultural Commodity grant PL-480 in the field of agricultural research commencing on 27-10-1985 continued for six days. There were twelve technical and one inaugural sessions. The workshop was held on October 27 and 28 and November 5, 6, 13,& 14 1985. The total number of projects involved was 103 concerning eight different organizations under BARC. The principal Investigators of the different departments of the University of Dhaka, although participated in the workshop, did not submit any written papers. Few incomplete papers were received from some of the organizations. As such, 86 papers were lastly considered for making the present evaluation study. The institute wise break-up involving 86 projects for which papers were presented shows that there were 31 projects of BARI, 13 of BAU, 17 of BINA, 10 of BJRI, 1 of BRRI, 5 of DLF and 9 of FRI. All these projects have been studied in respect of utilization of fund under PL 480 and impact of the same in each project. The response from the participating project investigator and institute authorities was quite encouraging. During the long 6 days programmes there were a lot of interesting deliberations and discussions which have been reflected in the summary of proceedings. The success and the endeavor was so encouraging that without such a workshop, the things could not be so easily tapped in such a short time. This workshop not only highlighted the achievements/progress but also pointed out lot of irregularities, anomalies, procedural bottlenecks and information gaps the confused the institutes/P.I. in handling the PL-480 fund. The participants have gained experience for their success as well as their failures and it is expected that this experience would help them to formulate the effective operational procedures of the PL-480 fund in future. en_US
