dc.description.abstract 1) To breed high yielding low temperature insensitive short duration varieties of white and tossa jute to fit in a three crop pattern in different cropping systems of Bangladesh. 2) To breed tossa varieties of jute with wider adaptability for shifting the major coverage of jute cultivation from white to tossa. 3) To breed widely adapted high yielding varieties of white jute with less cutting, finer and stronger fibre. 4) To breed short duration varieties of Kenaf and Mesta jute with economic yield of fibre and seed for commercial exploitation of both. 5) To generate location specific technologies for production and processing of Jute, Kenaf and Mesta and transfer this knowledge among the farmers. 6) To undertake scientific and technological research on jute fibre and products and to improve conventional jute products. 7) To evolve new and diversified end uses of jute for increasing export potentiality. 8) To provide technological support to jute textile industries in up-dating their manufacturing process and to adopt technologies for new jute products. 9) To provide information to Agriculture Research Wing for breeding new variety with higher quality jute fibre to grow jute with desired textile properties for the industries. en_US
