Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to provide information to the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) and its individual agricultural research institutes to facilitate their assessments of research priorities. Procedures are employed that are employed that are conceptually sound and that generate, where possible, quantifiable measures of research impacts to enhance the rigor and credibility of the results. Research directors and scientists were involved in the priority setting process to provide necessary information for the analysis and to help ensure that the results are meaningful to the institutes. Research priority rankings are provided by commodity and by research problem areas for the system as a whole and for the individual institutes. These rankings can be viewed as preliminary because additional refinements undoubtedly will be made over time and, more importantly, final priorities are established by administrators in the BARC and within the institutes. This study should provide guidelines to help those responsible for allocating operating funds and for making longer-term plans for programs, human resources, and facilities.
